Who is a refugee?
A refugee is a person who has fled their country of origin and is unable or unwilling to return because of a well-founded fear of being persecuted because of their race, religion, nationality, membership of a particular social group or political opinion.
Who is an asylum seeker?
Asylum is the . An asylum seeker is someone who has applied for asylum and the protection from another country. An asylum seeker must be regarded as a refugee until an honest, effective and efficient asylum procedure has been conducted and a final decision has been made. A person does not become a refugee when a state or the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) does not recognize them as a refugee.

If you have been granted the status of refugee or asylum seeker, you can prove this by means of a certificate from the United Nations High Commissioner For Refugees (UNHCR).
Role of the Red Cross in Suriname

B. Digital submission procedure

If you have successfully submitted the application, you will receive a confirmation of receipt by e-mail with a digital reference number issued by the sub directorate for Immigration.
Within 2 weeks you will be informed by email by an employee of the Sub directorate for Immigration notifying you if all documents are approved and if you are invited for an interview. During the interview, you will have to submit all original documents which you have scanned during the digital process.
C. Information about the interview
You and your family members will be interviewed regarding status, housing, means of subsistence, education, family / family members in- and outside of Suriname and health status / medical provisions. It is important that you prepare well for the interview and bring all your relevant original documents (and any family members).
After the interview, you will receive an email within 1 month, informing you when the issued stay permit may be picked up.
If you are not a refugee or asylum seeker and you do not have a certificate from the UNHCR, you do not meet the requirements for this procedure.

3. Certificado del UNHCR.

¿Quién es un refugiado?
Un refugiado es una persona que ha huido de su país de origen y no puede o no quiere regresar debido a un temor fundado de ser perseguido por su raza, religión, nacionalidad, pertenencia a un grupo social particular u opinión política.
¿Quién es un solicitante de asilo?
El asilo es la protección otorgada por un gobierno a alguien que ha dejado otro país para evitar ser dañado. Un solicitante de asilo es alguien que ha solicitado asilo y la protección de otro país. Un solicitante de asilo debe ser considerado como un refugiado hasta que se haya llevado a cabo un procedimiento de asilo honesto, efectivo y eficiente y se haya tomado una decisión final. Una persona no se convierte en refugiada cuando un estado o el Alto Comisionado de las Naciones Unidas para los Refugiados (UNHCR) no los reconoce como refugiado.

B. Procedimiento de envío digital.

C. Información sobre la entrevista.
Se entrevistará a usted y a los miembros de su familia sobre el estado, la vivienda, los medios de subsistencia, la educación, los miembros de la familia / familia dentro y fuera de Suriname y el estado de salud / disposiciones médicas.
